Elephant’s Foot Madagascar Palm (pachypodium rosulatum)

Irregular swollen short thick branches covered in sharp weak conical spines grow from the smooth caudex base. Pale green leaves form rosettes from the branch tips. spring brings lemon yellow flowers from short bloom spikes. The succulent stem acts as water store and enables the plant to survive the harshest conditions. The thick tuberous underground stems also help the plant to survive long periods without water. A great plant for the xeriscape gardener either containerized or in the ground.
