Stumpy Madagascar Palm (pachypodium horombense)

A unique xeriscape shrublet with a swollen main stem giving way to multiple short spiny branches tipped in rosette of small green elliptical leaves. Late summer brings chrome yellow flowers with deep corollas. The succulent stem acts as water store and enables the plant to survive the harshest conditions. The thick tuberous underground stems also help the plant to survive long periods without water. A great plant for the xeriscape gardener either containerized or in the ground.
